Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel Circular Quay

Web: Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay

Tel: +61 2 9259 7000

Address: 30 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000

Function room: Approx 80 guests

Event Type: Awards night and party

Venue opinion as follows:

Lighting: Lighting was inviting and appropriate for the event we were there for. Nice mood outside the main room for the activations and cocktails.

Ambience: Modern, simple elegance in style appealed to me. This cocktail area had good air temp for mingling and allowing the girls to not need a jacket with their formal dresses.

Staff: Could have been better served with an extra staff that particular night but they were very nice to work with.

Entrance: Stylish grand driveway into the reception area will impress your guests. Generous size reception area and foyer, after having a look around I eventually found the lifts to level 1 and guest space. Directional signage wasn’t catching my eye that night.

Location convenience: Located right by Circular Quay makes it very easy to get to from most areas of Sydney City. Plenty of taxis, busses nearby as well.

AV equipment: Professionally staffed with adequate and suitable resources for the requirements on the night.

Sydney Observatory Marquee event

Web: Sydney Observatory

Tel: +61 415 702 825

Address: Sydney Observatory – 1003 Upper Fort St, Millers Point NSW 2000

Function space capacity: 150 seated/200 standing

Event Type: Product Launch & Media Preview

Venue opinion as follows:

Lighting: This event started close to sunset so being outdoors the lighting looked good as it got darker. There was a good amount of directional and broad lighting that had matching colour temperature.

Ambience: Warm nights in a grand setting with an open expanse of both Sydney and Darling Harbour. Classy without pretention. Lot’s of outdoor and indoor space for the number of guests made it comfortable to get around.

Staff: Catering staff looked a bit under pressure, venue staff friendly and helpful with directions. The client staff were great to work with.

Entrance: It was special walking past the front gates of the 1858 built observatory. Well kept gardens led to the north side of the main building to the marquee.

Location convenience: Sydney Observatory is located on the headland facing North Sydney. Sydney Harbour to East Sydney side and Darling Harbour to the Inner West. Taxis or walking from Circular Quay up the hill. Same if you walk up from the Barangaroo side. A fairly steep path leads to the Observatory Hill. No parking on the grounds so drop off only.

AV equipment: AV pro staff were willing and able to assist with our lighting requests for the media wall and did well with the marquee being evenly lit while keeping it a nice ambiance.

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Corporate Party

Web: Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Hotel

Tel: +61 2 9228 9188

Address: In Sydney CBD at 61/101 Phillip St, Sydney NSW 2000

Ballroom Function: 500+ guests

Event Type: Corporate end of year themed party

Venue opinion as follows:

Lighting: Really good mood lighting for the types of corporate event on that night. The cocktail areas had consistent attractive lighting throughout. Extra large light features also helped get everyone in the mood. The main ballroom lighting was ok for the size of the space. The mirror tiled ceiling added an interesting element. The smaller meeting rooms with activations also looked great. Perfect for great photos.

Ambience: Elegant and classy. The upmarket style suited the theme of the night too. With ample space and warm wall materials it helped the guests feel a little taller and be very friendly.

Staff: Staff were friendly and professional on that shift. On arrival there were enough in the lobby to direct us to the upper foyer level.

Entrance: From ground level walking in via the footpath it’s hard to appreciate the architecture. Once inside the lobby you can feel the class in the air. Great sound protection from the bustle of being in the heart of Sydney CBD adds to the feeling that you’ve arrived in a place you are happy to stay for a while.

Location convenience: The Central Business District of Sydney or the high town of Sydney, or in some circles it’s called A grade real-estate. There are many forms of transport close by. You can catch the train to Circular Quay or Martin Place, or even Wynyard Railway Station and enjoy the very short walk to the entrance. On arrival we carried our photography equipment to the upper foyer level.

AV equipment: There would have been a fair amount of logistics required for setting up for the live music on the big stage. The multiple rooms with activations, entertainment and roving performers. There was ample equipment at the ready. The confetti cannon required lots of extra attention to do it’s thing.

Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection

Web: Pier One Sydney Habour Hotel

Tel: +61 2 8298 9999

Address: Walsh Bay, 11 Hickson Rd, Sydney NSW 2000

Event Size: 200+ seated

Event Type: Industry awards and formal dinner

Venue opinion as follows:

Lighting: It was late afternoon so with large floor to ceiling windows we had the full expanse of Sydney Harbour at our feet, soft natural light to start with. As the sun set it was a little challenging with indoor ceiling lights mixed with the fading outdoor light. Lots of backlighting adjustment required by photographers. The spot light on the stage for the welcome and key note speeches was great.

Ambience: Soft natural light washed over the table arrangements at first. Then the attractive night lights of Sydney Harbour outside, dim and appropriate lighting inside. The room wasn’t kept a good temperature which helps in improving the ambience and comfort of guests. Furnishings had a simple clean look to them, black ceilings so bounce light was not an option for photography.

Staff: We arrived early as usual, reception staff perhaps weren’t fully briefed on which event was running where at the time. We easily found the harbour room down the hall way to the right past the main reception desk. The staff were all lovely to liaise with.

Entrance: We weren’t too sure which door to use at first. There are sliding doors located on Hickson Road (near St. Ives Steps Wharfs) as we were early we used the main hotel entrance.

Location convenience: Pier One Sydney Harbour is located just on the other side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge south pylon. It’s either a long walk from Circular Quay train station or by taxi. There was ample paid street parking available at the time.

AV equipment: The AV set up was good with professional grade cameras and lighting. The event was both in person and broadcast live online to other locations in Australia.
