We love large scale event photography assignments. Festival photography comes in many styles and types. They cater to just about every genre of music and artistry.
And consequently, festivals attract every demographic. Price nor distance will keep the die-hard fans away from their favourite music festival.

Perhaps State Government rules may make it hard for festivals to remain near large population centres but I doubt these same fans would not travel an extra few hundred kilometres. And most likely to another State, crossing State borders is easy in Australia. We like the idea of a festival being near a regional community where the influx of workers and punters come in and frequent the local shops. We know we spend quite a bit in the towns nearby at every festival.
Festival Fans
Fans are already paying a price for the travel, the entry fee, onsite expenses and local accommodation. And that’s not even including the money it costs in taking time off work for them. Big fans will find the means to help support their favourite artists and keep the culture alive.
Like many other long-running music festivals, Blues is a good one to photograph if you’re into live music of many different flavours. Blues is quite rigid in its layout and very limited in its alternative art options. But the crowds are usually big. Big stages with great lighting with mostly great sound. Most years we are able to navigate through the crowds to and from the sound desk and back to the pit or our media office.
The festival is held in NSW Australia at https://www.byron-bay.com/events/venues/tyagarah-tea-tree-farm/

Blues Festival Photography Best of 2017
How good was this year’s Blues Fest, so many world-class performers all at one festival. The festival crowd, usually in the 80-100 000 over the week really get into their music. Often standing at their favourite vantage point for over an hour in very hot conditions.
From a festival photographer in Sydney point of view, it’s such a pleasure absorbing the artistry these musicians share with us. Being so close in the pit for a full concert is a privilege. Being able to absorb their energy and getting so close you can see all their expressions, the white of the eyes. So good. Hope some of that energy shines through the photos. The photos below really don’t show anywhere near the talent on stage.
